Inventory Forecasting for WooCommerce: What It Actually Computes

#woocommerce#inventory

WooCommerce tells you a unit count. KasbPro turns your synced order history into a velocity-based forecast and a reorder plan. Here is exactly how, and where it is still a rough estimate.

Inventory Forecasting for WooCommerce: What It Actually Computes

Running out of stock on a best-seller loses sales. Ordering too much ties up cash in things that are not moving. Both mistakes come from the same gap: a raw unit count does not tell you what it means.

Why a unit count alone is not enough

WooCommerce shows you "15 units left." That number means completely different things depending on how fast the product sells: at one unit a day, 15 units is two weeks of runway. At ten units a day, it is tomorrow afternoon. The count is the same; the urgency is not. WooCommerce's built-in stock display does not make that distinction — it just counts down.

What KasbPro actually computes

When your store is connected through the KasbPro Sync plugin, each paid order draws down stock in KasbPro (see how the sync direction actually works for the specifics), building a real movement history per product.

From that history, KasbPro computes:

  • Daily sales velocity — average units sold per day, over a recent window
  • Trend — whether demand is growing or declining versus the prior window
  • 30/60/90-day forecasts, and a projected stock-out date
  • A recommended reorder quantity, factoring in a configurable supplier lead time and a safety buffer

This is a deterministic statistical calculation over your own recorded sales — not a black box, and not a general "AI" claim. You can check the numbers against your own history and see why a recommendation was made.

Where it is a rough estimate, honestly

Two limits worth knowing before you rely on it for a large reorder:

  • It is only as good as your history. A product with two weeks of sales gives a rough velocity, not a confident one. A brand-new SKU has no history to forecast from at all.
  • It does not know about anything you have not told it. A planned promotion, a competitor closing, or a first-time holiday spike are not in the historical pattern, so the forecast will not anticipate them. Use it as one input, not the only one, for anything unusual coming up.

What happens with a recommendation

The forecast produces a replenishment plan — what to order, how much, how urgent, and an estimated cost, grouped by supplier where one is known from your purchase history. Turning that into an actual Purchase Bill is a deliberate click you make in KasbPro; the system does not commit you to a purchase on its own; a purchase order becoming a real liability on your books should always be your decision, not an automatic action.

One more honest limit: recording that purchase bill updates your inventory inside KasbPro. It does not automatically push the new stock number back to your live WooCommerce store — the plugin syncs WooCommerce into KasbPro, not the other direction, today. If your storefront's displayed stock needs to reflect a restock immediately, update it in WooCommerce as you normally would.

What is free, what is Pro

The forecast numbers, the reorder recommendations, and the replenishment plan are all on the free plan — this is arithmetic over data you already have, with no ongoing cost to us to compute. The Pro plan adds an LLM-narrated version of the same numbers on the Overview page inside wp-admin (a plain-English weekly brief), which is paid because, unlike the underlying forecast, it costs money per use.

The honest takeaway

This is genuinely useful — velocity-based forecasting beats a raw unit count for almost every reordering decision. It is not clairvoyant, it does not know about your marketing calendar, and it does not (yet) close the loop back to your storefront automatically. Treat the recommendation as a well-informed starting point, not a final answer.
